iPhone 13 Pro

Updated October 13th, 2021

What's New:

iPhone 13 series phones boast a completely redesigned camera system, which includes serious advances for mobile filmmakers:
  • a 3x telephoto lens
  • "Cinematic Mode" which allows for shallow depth of field and rack focusing during filming and in post-production
  • the ability to shoot in Apple Pro Res

For more detail on these upgrades, listen to iPhoneographer Blake Calhoun's reaction to the Apple release event:

Will my Moondog Labs Anamorphic Lens & Multi-Camera Filter Mount work with iPhone 13 series phones?

Most likely, yes. But until we have an iPhone 13 with a bayonet-mount case in-house for proper testing we cannot say for certain. We awaiting cases and lens mounts to be available from Moment, which are currently estimated to ship by December 5th.

As soon as we have these items, we'll put them through the appropriate tests and ensure all Moondog Labs gear performs to our high quality standards.

BeastGrip Pro + Moondog Labs + iPhone 13 series phones

We have tested with the iPhone13 Pro, 1.33X Anamorphic Lens - 37mm, and the Beastgrip Pro.
The 37mm is compatible with the Beastgrip Pro Rig and the iPhone13 Pro while using the Wide or Tele Cameras and up to two filters. Minor vignetting occurs with three filters and the Ultra Wide Camera causes clipping.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max has the same specs, camera, and processor as the iPhone 13 Pro so I think it will have similar results. The only issue with the iPhone 13 Pro Max is that it is a tight squeeze to settle into the BeastGrip Prio rig but that's true of all the 'Max' iPhones since iPhone 11, a little more difficult but not insurmountable.

Based on the specs of the iPhone 13 & iPhone 13 Mini, we can infer that the 1.33X Anamorphic Lens - 37mm thread mount/BeastGrip Pro rig setup would work well.
