Tangerine
It’s Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend hasn’t been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra, embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity.
Tangerine caused a major stir at its 2015 Sundance world premiere following the reveal that the gorgeous-looking film was shot on iPhone 5s. A worldwide distribution deal with Magnolia Pictures was announced immediately following. While not the first feature film shot exclusively on a mobile device, Tangerine's commercial and critical success changed the perception of mobile filmmaking from a gimmick to a credible creative choice.
Principal photography for Tangerine took place in Hollywood, California (including West Hollywood clubs and Santa Monica Boulevard) on Christmas Eve 2013 and wrapped on January 18, 2014. The film was shot on three iPhone 5s smartphones with the Moondog Labs Anamorphic Lens, FiLMIC Pro, and the Steadicam Smoothee. Baker used Final Cut Pro for initial edits and Da Vinci Resolve for color grading. More about shooting Tangerine on HDVideoPro.
